Installation
Depending on which Specops products you use, you may need to install the Specops Client on all participating computers. The Cefsharp runtime is also required for several products, see the table below.
| Product | Requires Specops Client | Requires Cefsharp runtime |
|---|---|---|
| Specops uReset | ✓ | ✓ |
| Specops Secure Access | ✓ | ✓ |
| Specops Password Policy | ✓ | |
| Specops Password Reset | ✓ | ✓ |
To configure the Specops Client in your environment, you will also need the corresponding ADMX template.
Downloading
Refer to the Download instructions to download the Specops Client, Cefsharp runtime and ADMX templates.
Manual installation
To manually install the Specops Client on a specific computer, download and run the Cefsharp runtime installer first — if required — then run the Specops Client installer.
Deployment
To deploy the Specops Client to multiple computers in your environment, it is recommended to use a deployment tool, for example, Group Policy Software Installation (GPSI). Use the standard silent switch by adding /qn to the MSI.
Note
Make sure to also deploy the corresponding version of the Cefsharp runtime, if required. Refer to the requirements table at the top.
Upgrading
When required, download the latest version of the Specops Client and deploy it. New releases of the client may also require a new version of the Cefsharp runtime. Make sure that you deploy the correct version of the runtime before the client is updated.
Note
If a new version of the Cefsharp runtime is to be deployed you may want to consider keeping both the previous and the new version for a period of time to ensure that the functionality of the Specops Client is not disrupted. When the new Specops Client has been successfully deployed, you can undeploy the previous version of the Cefsharp runtime.
Installing ADMX templates
Administrative (ADMX) templates can be used to manage settings that are related to the Specops Client. The ADMX templates do not need to be installed on the client computers. For on-prem Active Directory environments it is recommended to install the ADMX templates in the central store. Refer to the Microsoft documentation for details.
Using ADMX templates
Once the ADMX templates have been installed, the configuration options for the Specops Client can be accessed from a Group Policy by starting in the Group Policy Management Console. For more information, see the Specops Client page.
